18.5 Recap

True Grit: Nat, Mike F

Before she started 18.5, Nat was on the verge of ripping a callus. When she got through the first 3 thrusters, sure enough, her hand ripped in multiple spots. Despite this, she continued on and fought for each pullup, often failing to touch her chest. But she just kept going despite being in pain. Josh and I were very proud of her grit and determination!

I judged Mike F on Friday and he gave it his all. But he received 10-15 no reps on his CtoB pullups. It’s still a new movement for him and he’s still developing his kip. However, Mike came back in on Monday and was able to PR by 13 reps! He knew if he just eliminated some of the no-reps he could get a much better score, and, he did!

Repeat Wonders: Mike F +13, H-Mark +4, Miguel +5, Rob +4, Doyle +4, Dr Marc +5

Performance of the Week: Brett

Brett went into 18.5 not really knowing if he would get even a single C2B pullup. After handling the first 3 thrusters, he proceeded to do the 3 CtoB Pullups unbroken! When the 7 minutes was up, Brett had completed 55 reps, good for 25 total pullups! Brett has made a ton of progress in the last 6 months since he’s joined the gym. 18.5 really illustrated his hard work!

Team Players: Husky Mark, Andy S, Caitie, Dr Lynn

Husky Mark and Andy S attended nearly every Open Saturday. Thank you, gentlemen, for your support of your fellow members! Caitie and Lynn also came on Saturday specifically to help judge and cheer on the team!

PR’s and Firsts: Brett, Nat, Alex O, Brian L

Alex O recently started working on getting chest to bar pullups. In her warm up for 18.5, they were close, but not quite there. When the workout started she had a few no-reps and a few good reps. All of a sudden, things clicked and she started doing single chest to bars with ease!

Brett, see above.

Nat, see above.

Brian L started at CFR about a month ago. He was tossed into the Open and embraced it. He did his first chest to bar pullups the day he did 18.5. And, he was able to get about 30 of them!
