Where is Everyone?

2012 was a big year fro CrossFit Redondo. You guys made insane progress during both the DLG and No Bread Challenge. We raised over $8000 for CrossFit for Hope, which was amazing considering how new the gym was at that point. There have been countless PR's and pounds lost, goals met and obstacles overcome. I could not be more proud of each of our community members.

And here's the catch: Last January, I had a lot of people outside of CrossFit ask me if I expected a big January as far as business goes. I really didn't know how to answer that because it was the first January of the gym. As it turned out, there was a good deal of new interest, but the current membership actually dropped. We actually lost several members and had a number of members go on a hiatus. I figured this was a coincidence or even just a  fluke, and blamed the holidays for lack of attendance.

However, the same thing is happening this year, and it is frustrating not from a business standpoint, but from a progress standpoint. When members don't show up, fitness progress is hindered. Remember, when you sign for four days a week, we expect you to show up 4 days a week. I understand the holidays can exhaust us physically, financially, and mentally, but what's a better time to focus on your health? When the routine of showing up regularly gets broken up by the holidays, it can be difficult to get out of the new routine of not attending class. I went through this exact issue in late December, not wanting to workout and having little motivation. But, once back in the routine of getting in the gym, the positive benefits of working out become quickly evident once more.

I want members who are dedicated to their fitness, who are committed to year-round progress and health. I believe that right now a large majority of our members are committed to that. Attendance this month is very low though, and I would do anything to change that. CrossFit is unlike any other gym, where attendance is actually encouraged. Full classes mean more people are getting fit and reaching their goals. If I only cared about enrollment and not attendance I would not be writing this. That is not the case, and full classes are my goal, as is expanding the schedule. So, if you're reading this and you need a kick in the ass here it is. Get back into a healthy routine, and make this year your healthiest ever!
