The Open starts this week and I know many of you are excited. This is the first Open experience for the gym, and it is going to be a very fun 5 weeks for everyone. Here are some important details regarding what CrossFit Redondo plans to do:
First off, if you have not signed up and plan to, please do so ASAP. Here is a link to sign up: http://games.crossfit.com/
Every Wednesday night at 5pm, CrossFit Headquarters will announce the workout. Here’s the deal: I will be doing the workout at 8pm (after the last class ends). If anyone would like to join me at that time, you may. It will be un-judged and won’t be official and is more of a walk-through for myself and others to create strategies for Saturday.
The workouts will be performed on Saturday’s as a group. Heats will begin at 11am and go as long as it takes for everyone to get done. This will depend on how many participants we have, the time frame of the workout and what equipment is involved in the WOD.
If you cannot make Saturday’s please make arrangements with me to do the workout judged on either Thursday or Friday. If you can make Saturday’s I highly encourage you to do so.
There are 5 workouts, 1 WOD per week. WOD’s are announced Wednesday at 5pm and the deadline to complete it is Sunday at 5pm. The workout must be done at the affiliate and must have a judge present, counting reps and enforcing standards. As the Open progresses, you will see how you stack up both in Southern California and the world.
There will be a judge’s sign up sheet floating around the gym this week. Please sign up if you can make Saturday’s and are willing to commit to judging a few athletes per week. We will have a short judges meeting on Saturday at 11am to discuss standards and any other info pertinent to the workout. Even if you are doing the Open you can still judge other athletes.
Even if you do not sign up for the Open, Saturday’s workout will still be the Open workout for everyone, so you’ll do it regardless. If you can’t make Saturday I will encourage you to do the workout of Friday. I would like every single person in the gym to experience each of the 5 workouts.
On Saturday, from 11am till 1pm (or later) the gym is open to anyone. Stick around, do the WOD, cheer on others, and bring friends/family! Let’s create and awesome atmosphere and have some fun!
